CHANGEMAKERS
THE PROJECT

The Brian Mulroney Chair in Government at Tel Aviv University
Funds raised through TAU Canada’s 2026 Changemakers Gala and campaign will significantly enhance the stature and global impact of the Brian Mulroney Chair in Government at Tel Aviv University. Established during the lifetime of the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney—Canada’s 18th Prime Minister and a principled champion of democracy and international cooperation—the Chair reflects his enduring commitment to strengthening the bonds between Canada and Israel.
Mr. Mulroney’s longstanding support for Israel and Tel Aviv University was formally recognized when the university awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1994. This Chair stands as a living tribute to his legacy and vision for a more interconnected and democratic world.
The campaign will also support collaboration with Tel Aviv University and other Canadian universities, creating a unique bi-national platform for advancing research, leadership, and public policy dialogue. These institutions honour Mr. Mulroney’s legacy by building bridges between Canadian and Israeli scholars, policymakers, and future leaders.
The Chair sits at the Faculty of Social Sciences in the School of Political Science, Government, and International Affairs. The incumbent, Prof. Yotam Margalit, is also a professor in the Department of Political Economy at King’s College London.
HONOUREES

Dr. Mila Mulroney
Dr. Mila Mulroney serves as Chancellor of St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and is the recipient of honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from St. Francis Xavier University (2004), St. Thomas University, and Ontario Tech University. (2021). StFX is also home to the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government and the Mila Mulroney Chair in Women, Policy and Governance Leadership. A distinguished Canadian public figure and philanthropist, she is widely recognized for her enduring contributions to children’s welfare, health, and community well-being.
Born Milica Pivnicki in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, Dr. Mulroney immigrated to Canada in 1958 at the age of five with her mother and brother to join her father, Dr. Dimitrije Pivnicki, who was pursuing graduate studies in psychiatry at McGill University. Trained in medicine in Dusseldorf, Germany and speaking seven languages, he went on to build a distinguished career in Canada at the Allan Memorial Institute of the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he practiced for many years. His life’s work—rooted in care, discipline, and a deep understanding of the human condition—left a quiet but lasting influence that is reflected in Dr. Mulroney’s own lifelong commitment to compassion and service.
Dr. Mulroney played an influential and widely acknowledged role in the public life and political career of her late husband, the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney. As the spouse of the Prime Minister, Dr. Mulroney helped redefine the role—bringing a modern, engaged, and highly visible presence to public life. Through her leadership in philanthropy and social advocacy, she advanced causes of national importance and set a new standard for public service grounded in fairness, inclusion, dignity, and purpose.
Her longstanding commitment to volunteerism has focused particularly on children and vulnerable communities. As a member of the Board of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, she has been instrumental in raising national awareness and generating millions of dollars in support of research. She is also a dedicated volunteer with Chez Doris, a women’s shelter in Montreal. For more than 16 years, Dr. Mulroney served as Co-Chair of the annual Taste of the Nations Gala, helping to fund school nutrition and after-school mentoring programs for children across Montreal. In recent years, she has also supported advances in medical research through the establishment of the Mila and Brian Mulroney Philanthropic Chair in Diabetes at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM), further reflecting her enduring commitment to improving health outcomes for Canadians.
Her extensive leadership in governance and community service includes board roles with Astral Media, Le Cercle Entreprendre, the Foundation of The Hospital for Sick Children, the McGill School of Music, Frontier College (now United for Literacy), and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
Together with her family, Caroline, Ben, Mark and Nicolas – Dr. Mulroney’s lifelong commitment to public service, compassion, and community leadership stands as a defining part of the Mulroney legacy—one that continues to inspire and is fittingly recognized through the 2026 Changemaker Award.

Ben Mulroney
Ben Mulroney is regarded as one of Canada’s premier television and radio hosts. He is best known as the former co-host of CTV’s Your Morning and Etalk and host of Canadian Idol, which was the most watched English-language Canadian television show on record for the entirety of its six-season run. As a preeminent host, emcee, and interviewer, Mulroney infuses galas, conferences, and every event he’s involved in with his signature humour, charisma, and warm personality.
Despite being the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and earning a law degree from Laval University and a history degree from Duke University, Mulroney found his calling in show business, not politics.
Mulroney got his start as the Quebec City Correspondent for talktv’s The Chatroom before joining CTV’s Canada AM as their entertainment reporter. He then joined Etalk from its inception, where he interviewed thousands of stars and reported from hundreds of red carpets, including the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Emmys, and the Juno Awards. Mulroney has also appeared as a contributor on the weekend edition of ABC News’ Good Morning America and joined Kelly Ripa as guest co-host twice on the popular daytime talk show, Live! With Kelly.
Today, Mulroney hosts The Ben Mulroney Show on 640 Toronto, a nationally syndicated talk show that focuses on politics, media, and other hot-button issues. He also works closely with Aurora Strategy Global, a fast-growing public affairs, government, and public relations firm, and is a strategic and communications advisor to several Canadian startups, including Trexity, HOVR, Midori-Bio, and TutorOcean.
As an experienced event host, Mulroney works closely with several charitable organizations, including Cystic Fibrosis Canada and SickKids. In 2024, he hosted a fundraising “radiothon” in support of The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

He served as Vice Chair in both groups, led the Financial Institutions and Sponsors Coverage teams, and oversaw advisory and capital markets work with financial institutions and private equity clients. He later expanded his mandate to include senior client engagement and strategic initiatives across Scotiabank’s global wholesale businesses.
Before Scotiabank, he was Co-Head of Equity Trading and Head of Equity Capital Markets at National Bank. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in New York, later moved to RBC Capital Markets in Toronto and London, where he became Managing Director and Co-Head of Equity Agency Trading.
Mr. Mulroney is active in public and community life. He serves on the boards of The BlackNorth Initiative and the Fraser Institute, co-chairs the Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre Fundraising Advisory Board, and chairs the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government Advisory Board at St. Francis Xavier University. An active fundraiser, he has helped to raise much needed funds for a variety of causes including the Luminato Festival, National Ballet of Canada, Paralympic Foundation of Canada, Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal, The Mt Sinai foundation and le Centre Marie Vincent.
Mr. Mulroney has been recognized for his leadership and public service. He and his wife, Vanessa, were the inaugural recipients of the Aune Award for their contributions to Boost CYAC, and he was honoured in 2025 by the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for his allyship and advocacy in support of the Jewish community.

About Tel Aviv University
Optimism at Work

Located in Israel’s high-tech and cultural center, Tel Aviv University (TAU) represents the country at its best – dynamic, innovative and forward-looking. Established as a small local college in 1956, TAU has evolved into Israel’s largest and most influential research university. It ranks first among Israeli universities (Times, Taiwan and QS), as well as 7th in the world – and the only institution outside of the US – for producing successful startup founders (Pitchbook). TAU’s 30,000 students are enrolled in 130 schools and departments that span the spectrum of sciences, humanities and arts.
The University is driven by a four-pronged mission: promoting interdisciplinary research and teaching, internationalizing the campus, deepening industry partnerships, and reinforcing community engagement. Our overarching goal: To strengthen Israel’s economy, society, security, and international standing.
Research strengths include AI, nano, cyber, cancer, trauma, archaeology, business, and film, among others. Among recent breakthroughs, TAU teams produced the world’s first live, 3D-printed heart, opening new directions for replacing injured organs; developed the first-ever emergency neuroprotective treatment for spinal cord injury with a grant from the US Department of Defense; were first to use gene-editing technology to engineer a prototype HIV vaccine; discovered a new type of prehistoric human; and devised a drug cocktail for the early prevention of aggressive skin cancer metastasis. At the same time, TAU was also the first in Israel to launch a dedicated program targeting talented students from Israel’s social and geographic periphery, and revolutionized social responsibility by embedding volunteerism in accredited courses.
Tel Aviv University welcomes 2,000 international students annually, studying in over 20 degree programs in English. It has 280 academic partnerships with institutions in 46 countries and pursues collaborative teaching and research with Stanford, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, NIH, NASA, CERN, and many other world-leading institutions.
